Sugar Star Fish | Echinoderm

A starfish is not a fish !

The Starfish is the cousin to the sand dollar. This carnivorous creature feeds on clams and mussels. It is a bloodless creature, instead saltwater ventilates through their body causing their feet to move. With no brain, it's quite impressive that the average lifespan of the stars can be 35 years and they can reproduce both with a partner or by dividing its body and regenerating as two separate starfishes. This is important, because if a star's leg is lost to prey or other reasons, it can grow the leg back. An unusual twist to the anatomy of a starfish is that it can either be a male or female, not both like some creatures, and can actually change its gender whenever they choose too in their lifetime.

Starfish are trickier to find on Delaware coastlines, however a heavy hurricane will usually tumble up a few for the lucky comber.
